October 2006 Archive

Welcome to the Archive for October 2006! What you will find here may be old. It may scare you. It may even scare me! More importantly, you might find links that no longer work, and *gasp* information that is no longer, or possibly never was, accurate in any way. Don't rely on this information to save your life!

I was just following a strange trail of links between various Wikipedia articles and I came upon that of John Hodgman, a very funny man who regularly contributes to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and is perhaps even more commonly recognizable as the PC from Apple's hilarious and very cute Get a Mac series of commercials.

The first time I saw John Hodgman on television, however, apparently didn't stick well enough. It turns out his first appearance on the Daily Show was as a guest, promoting a book called "The Areas of My Expertise" which is apparently a completely perfect snapshot of my sense of humor. I've seen that episode, but I never before connected that appearance to the same person that I've been enjoying as their resident expert.

I couldn't resist ordering the book right away so I can start to see what marvelous fake facts it contains.

Oh, and don't worry. If you still need something to give me for Christmas, just drop on over to Amazon.com and pick something from my wish list. (You have no obligation to buy the item(s) from Amazon.com (or, in fact, at all). It's just a nice place to organize them, since they sell everything.) ;)

The last few weeks have been beautiful, with temperatures dropping into the 50s at night and low 70s for highs. We've also picked up quite of bit of rain as well.

It's looking like tomorrow, however, brings the first chance for snowfall here in Chicago. The overnight low is very, very close to freezing. It's about 36°F according to the reports I've checked. The wind chill is nasty, and it's the first night so far that I've had to wear a jacket, but I don't really mind that too much since I know I can handle it. :)

I'm hoping for a bit of a better winter than we saw last year. With any luck, we'll have more than one major snowfall, and it won't all melt within 2 days. If things go well enough, we can all go sledding on Clark's hat. :)

[Comments: 0] 4:12 AM - gasp-I-skipped-September

Apparently, I never got around to blogging in September. Nothing really happened of consequence, so I guess that's my excuse. I'm dropping the trackback feature from the site because the only people enjoying its existence are spammers. That just annoys me, so it's gone.

I finally got the opportunity to see "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" this weekend amongst some movie watching. It's Ray's favorite movie of all time, and I must say he did pick well. It's a really interesting story with a lot of depth to it and I was generally impressed.

Andrew has convinced me to roll yet another WoW character, and this weekend I finally got around to bring this one up to level 20. This is a Horde character, and I'm getting a chance to play as a Shaman, which I am actually quite enjoying. It's probably my favorite Horde-only class (until the expansion pack is released, when it won't be Horde-only anymore). I can see where some people call the class overpowered, though I can't seem to identify an aspect of the distinct qualities of the class that would be able to be removed or weakened without throwing the balances all out of whack. I find myself kind of squishy when I solo, but a lot of the abilities seem to be oriented around groups and larger battles.

Hopefully, in spite of this 20, I will still get my level 40 Paladin up to 60 someday as well. He is still my favorite character, and he deserves to be played. :)

The plans are laid in for the holidays. I am taking the undesirable "work Thanksgiving" shift, and in exchange a longer Christmas vacation. I'll be home on Long Island from the 23rd of December through the 30th. That should hopefully give me enough time to celebrate adequately, though I am sad that I am going to miss out on the traditions that include putting up the tree, baking cookies, and putting together the xmas cards. I guess it's one of those things that happens when you grow up.

No movement on the identity theft stuff really. I'm going to get us a post office box this week, just so we can stop dealing with the crap involving our mailbox. There's really not much else I can do, but I have verified now that my credit is untouched, so everything is holding stable at least. Maybe someone will eventually catch the demonic forces responsible and cast them out of our building. :)

I think that's all I'm going to blog about for now, because I should be sleeping, and this post is proof that I'm not. :)
