Well, as I mentioned in my last post, I'm off to the airport in about an hour back to Long Island. I'll be on the road to Maryland the next day, and most of the weekend will be spent away from the island celebrating my cousin's graduation. As a result, I'll be mostly incommunicado until Monday. My flight back to Chicago is Tuesday afternoon.
If you're in dire need of contacting me, give me a call on my cell. :)

I never really wanted to be one of those people that spends a great deal of his day trying to resolve in his head how the world around him is supposed to work. It's a hell of a lot of effort, and it makes my brain hurt sometimes.
Ever since college, that all really changed, and I formed for the first time some of the basis for my understanding of politics and the ways of the world. Since moving to Chicago, it's been even better, because I've got two Libertarians as roommates, and you know what? They make the most sense, almost all the time, of any of the people I've ever talked politics with. Now that doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination I want to be a hardline Libertarian, but I've pretty much decided that it's hands down the best representation of the views I've been able to pull together. The Libertarians mostly want the government out of people's lives, which fits my social liberalism excellently, and through a mix of various perspectives I've come to understand, I'm a lot more comfortable taking an relatively conservative economic position, which is a change from the past. I guess that makes me a flip-flopper? ;)
After we move downtown, I'm going to try to find the nearest DMV and get myself an Illinois driver's license. I probably should reregister my car in this state as well, but I still need to get the title transferred to my name and whatever other paperwork in place that needs be. If voter registration is available in the DMV, I will take that opportunity to register to vote here, and if party registration is an option on that form, I'm going to check Libertarian this time. I feel pretty confident in that decision now... something that I probably wouldn't have said two days ago.
Speaking of politics, we had an "Apartment Cooling" party to celebrate our move to downtown. As the cooling party cooled down, our remaining party members, Ray, Karl, Joe (Karl's friend from Northwestern), and myself had chanced upon a question sure to change the face of American government: Do you have to be 35 to register to run for, be elected as, or take the office of President of the United States? To find out, we figure we have to challenge someone's eligibility. Ray's friend Paul fits the bill, so we've decided to run him in 2016.
In other news, my cousin Wes is graduating from Annapolis Naval Academy next weekend. I'm flying back home on Wednesday so I can travel with my family to MD to attend the ceremonies and related events. I'll be back on May 31st, then we move downtown the next day! Congrats to my couz (not that he'll ever see this anyway)....
June will be a busy month. Quickly following our move, HostingCon is June 6th and 7th. Ray's parents are going to be in that following weekend, then he's leaving for a wedding. My family will be in the weekend following that, which will be the first chance my mom and sister get to see me out here in the windy city. I know I won't have a boring month. :)
