Perhaps one of the coolest and most adorable items to ever come out of the Mozilla Store is the Mozilla Firefox plushie. Ray owns one, and we were discussing the prospect of creating an army of Firefoxes when, to our dismay, we realized that the plush firefox has departed from the store. Apparently it disappeared earlier this year.
Fortunately, this is regarded as a bug!

[Comments: 0] 3:38 AM - alternate-keyboard-layout
I am writing this post using the Dvorak keyboard layout. This is not easy because all of the letters are in different locations. I am trying to do this for no reason other than because the thought came up and it is something I have always wanted to try. I have learned where all of the letters are, but I type very slowly and it is easy to become frustrated. For that reason, I am going to stop here for now, but I have proven to myself that I can do it if I keep practicing. :)

[Comments: 1] 8:05 AM - noisy-brain-won't-shut-up
I couldn't get to sleep for some reason this morning, so I was lying in bed for three hours when I finally decided to get up and cut it out. Part of the problem seems to have been that I can't stop my brain from plotting uncontrollably, though I really should try to get some sleep since I am supposed to be working in 5 hours.
The main topic my brain touched upon seems to have been some changes I have been planning to make to my computers. I am currently planning to reinstall Windows on my Windows box after setting up a software RAID configuration and try to clean up some of the cruft that has collected on that computer. The goal is to then free up a drive from that system, probably the 120 and use to replace this ancient 20 GB hard drive in my Linux box. I'll keep Gentoo on my laptop, where the tweaking power is much needed and the software availability Gentoo provides is quite handy.
My Linux box presently is running Gentoo, but it came to mind (and I'm fairly pleased with this decision) that I should switch away from Gentoo finally and go to Ubuntu instead. This seems reasonable because of the following:
- My main reason for avoidance of Ubuntu (or other Linux) was software availability, which has only been a problem on AMD64, not x86, which is the architecture of my desktop Linux box.
- Gentoo's portage package manager is showing major signs of stress due to certain design flaws that have made it extremely slow and clumsy as the size of the package respository grows.
- As much as I like to be able to tweak my package builds to suit the options I need, the amount of software that falls under this category now that my system is being used mostly as a regular old desktop is relatively small.
- Ubuntu is a beautifully maintained and assembled distribution which should provide all the software that I do use now with decent integration and a lot less tweaking on a system where I really don't need that much flexibility.
The main question now becomes: when will I get around to getting these changes made to my systems?
The other question now becomes: will I get any sleep before it's time for work this afternoon?
