July 2006 Archive

Welcome to the Archive for July 2006! What you will find here may be old. It may scare you. It may even scare me! More importantly, you might find links that no longer work, and *gasp* information that is no longer, or possibly never was, accurate in any way. Don't rely on this information to save your life!

[Comments: 0] 4:07 AM - when-libel-isn't-libel

It's certainly not the first time someone telling the truth has been accused of libel or slander. I made some comments about a copycat of SimGames.net on the SimGames.net forums and it seems to have struck a cord. Of course, I can back up every word I have said. I must admit I rather enjoyed writing the response I did, and I have not written a single thing in there which is not true. I have a library of potentially libelous things I could say about these folks if I wanted to, but I have no reason to lie when the truth is so perfectly scandalous as it is. :)

We leave for Hosting Con 2006 on Sunday. The purpose of this convention is a combination of hosting industry networking, attraction of new customers, interaction with existing customers, and a investigation of new products we might wish to integrate into our offerings. Since the convention is in Las Vegas this year, it'll be my first chance to try my hand at some Casino gambling. I haven't decided how much I'm prepared to lose, but I know the standard advice is to pick an amount and stop when that money dries up. I'll try not to lose too much and I expect it should be a fun experience on the whole.

The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine DVD collection containing all 7 seasons recently dropped from Amazon.com. It had been on my wishlist there, and fearing it and its reduced price might eventually wander off without me, I decided to pick up a copy from DeepDiscountDVD.com and I've started using some quiet periods toward the end of my shift at work to work my way through the series. I'm puzzled that the pilot episode is numbered 721, followed by 404, then 403. The numbers 401 and 402 don't seem to appear, at least not in the first season, and 721 just seems strange.

So far I'm probably about a third of the way into the first season and getting to remember why I loved the series so much. Some of the stories are unfortunately predictable because I actually remember the episodes quite well, especially given how long it's been. There's a lot of humor in this series too that I don't think I would have picked up back when I was younger. I love it! :)

[Comments: 4] 5:39 AM - color-experimentation

My colorblindness makes it difficult to come up with new color schemes that actually look reasonable, but that doesn't stop me from trying. Please select "New (Exp)" from the color scheme box and take a look at the site. You can also click to switch magically to "New (Exp)" without having to fumble around with the listbox.

I'd like to make this new theme the default after it's finished. Let me know what you think. Please feel free to point out any parts of the site are colored in ways that just suck. If you were using the new (exp) theme when it used to be green and you liked that one, let me know that as well. There's certainly room for me to bring that one back as another scheme. :)

OMG!!!! Woot!

It has finally happened, dammit! Fry, Leela, Bender, Amy, Zoidberg, Hermes, Professor Farnsworth, and Scruffy the Janitor have been signed back into existence!

In 2008, Futurama will return with 13 new episodes on Comedy Central! True, that's only half a season, but I see no reason why the adoring fan base will have any reason not to come pouring back in and give the show the ratings it deserves on a network that isn't going to be so quick to raise the axe.

I am so excited that I am considering devoting the next two years to trying to invent a machine that can bring me forward in time to meet their debut! :)
